Latest Updates from Our Project:

Good News, Everyone!

You talked, we listened! We updated the Kickstarter with three new exciting options!

First, many people asked if we could make a PDF-only tier where you could purchase all the books for both 5th Edition and Pathfinder Second Edition at a discounted price, and now you can! Simply adjust your existing pledge if you wish to upgrade to this new tier!

Second, some people missed out on the free hunter's dice case during the first 48 hours of the Kickstarter, while others simply wanted to purchase extras, so we added the real leather hunter's dice case as a new add-on option for only $10 each! To purchase this add-on, simply increase your original pledge by $10 and select this add-on to receive a new/additional dice case!

Third, people asked for new stretch goals, we listened, so we added new content-related stretch goals to the campaign! We are also looking into adding additional physical stretch goals as well, but we are waiting for pricing and timing from our partners before we add those, so stay tuned!

And please continue to spread the word on the campaign as the more successful the overall campaign, the more options we can give to our backers, thanks everyone!

Wait, There Are Two Sets of Parrot People?

Our friends over at Legendary Games (first fun fact, Roll For Combat's very own Vanessa Hoskins wrote the  Legendary Kineticist for Legendary Games) just celebrated the halfway point of their Boricubos and Latin American Monsters campaign! I have been a long-time fan of everything produced by Legendary Games and their new Kickstarter really caught my interest. Here's a quick overview:

  •  Boricubos and Latin American Monsters is a terrific two-pronged campaign setting and monster supplement for Latin America, from Puerto Rico to Peru and Argentina to Mexico, brought to you by Legendary Games and a diverse team including nearly 20 Latinx authors and artists! Both Boricubos: The Lost Isles and Latin American Monsters will be available for DnD 5E, Pathfinder RPG, and Pathfinder Second Edition! Grab both books for your favorite game system or two or three! However you use them, you'll be sure to Make Your Game Legendary!

(Second fun fact, you should listen to the  EN World Podcast with myself and Mark Seifter where I talk about the Boricubos campaign and their newly released "the book is so big it makes me look smaller"  Aegis of Empires Adventure Path!)

But I have to say, what really caught my eye was the strange case of "multiple discovery" where both campaigns feature parrot people?!? Make sure to check out this great Kickstarter!

You say Iguaca, we say G'mayun, but we can all agree that parrot people are awesome!

Pig people you say?

So a little secret...  most "stretch goals" on Kickstarters aren't true stretch goals. Because of the work necessary to create new content, most Kickstarters either planed on doing them already and simply add them as a stretch goal. In fact, many times they are simply added to the project afterward, even if the stretch goal isn't meet.

We ourselves initially played with that idea and were going to have a stretch goal of different dragon types unlock until all 40 were unlocked, but then we thought that would be unfair to those who ordered the Dragon book, so we just unlocked all of them from the start.

Hence, we are trying to do TRUE stretch goals, items we might not have done at all without hitting certain goals.

For example, these new Ancestries... we aren't fooling around with these new ancestries, I was talking to Mark last night and he called them MEGA ANCESTIRES. I'm not sure if you noticed but some ancestries in Pathfinder are 6 pages long, while others are 8 pages. That is due to the page count limit when Paizo creates a book, so SOMETIMES they need to make an ancestry a little shorter than a "standard" ancestry (which is usually 8 pages). What that means is that sometimes they need to remove some of the higher level Feats and reduce the word count a bit to make them fit into the book. So times you get a "standard" ancestry, while other times you get a "shorter" ancestry.

We, on the other hand, when we add a new ancestry, we aren't fooling around. An average ancestry you would find in a Paizo product is around 4k words, 5k at most (which translates to 6-8 pages).

Our new g'mayun ancestry, which Mark wrote, is 6185 words, which might not seem like much, but it's a BIG difference. We are looking at approximately TEN pages for our new ancestries (not including Dragons, that is a whole other story), which is why we are calling them MEGA ANCESTRIES. We have no page count limit so I am allowing my authors to write as much as they need, and they are writing! So when you get a new ancestry... you will get a MEGA ANCESTRY!

Plus, making them "true" ancestries affects the Jewel adventure path in other ways. For example, now that the Orpok will have a complete ancestry developed, we can add them as NPCs more easily, we can add them to the history of the islands, flesh out their history and culture, and make them a living, breathing part of the world. Oh yeah, and we'll additional artwork, A LOT more artwork.

So even if you don't expect to use them as an ancestry option in your game, having a new ancestry affects the overall project in more ways than you might expect. A few weeks ago the Orpok didn't even exist, but after Patrick proposed them, I thought they were so cool that we should add them as a potential ancestry. And now not only will be they an option for players to use in their game, but the Orpok are getting an entire town in the next adventure!

So keep unlocking those new ancestries to keep expanding the world of Alacar. Oh yeah, and I literally JUST got this finished artwork while I was typing this, an Orpok Fighter! Enjoy!

Boy, that escalated quickly

Wow, a lot has happened in the last 24 hours! Let's do a little recap, shall we?

  • First, we hit our goal in 55 minutes and have continued to grow at a nice pace.
  • Due to popular demand, we have added "the entire world" to our shipping options. There is currently a major bug in Kickstarter that is preventing people from shipping to any country other than the initial six but don't worry. You don't need to finalize your shipping location until AFTER the Kickstarter is over. Please look at the FAQ for more details.
  • We hit 6 stretch goals in the first 24 hours!
  • A new interview and preview of the Battlezoo Bestiary were posted yesterday, check out past updates for links.
  • Finally, because of some issues with some marketing emails that were supposed to go out yesterday that aren't going out until today (and the fact that the Paizo website was down half of the day yesterday), I have extended the free gift leather dice case for an additional 24 hours to allow everyone the chance to get this cool gift. But it won't be extended again! Get your order in by September 2nd, 15 UTC to automatically get your free leather dice case with any physical order!

And help get the word out to continue to unlock those stretch goals. We have some new ancestries and other options coming up soon!
